The Submarine Store is a high-end, web-based, specialty store providing submarine merchandise and memorabilia with full eCommerce features including a shopping cart, online transactions, multiple online forums, electronic postcards, an affiliate program, and site and product database search capabilities.

The IIS team discussed the project at length with the investors to determine the needs of the online store . The site was mapped out in its entirety prior to development. While the revenue stream is clearly product-based, the site focus was maintained on the community and user features.

The crux of the initial marketing was email notification to opt-in users. The ongoing marketing and expansion of  the customer base is achieved through a superior combination of  user-community services available from the website such as chat rooms and discussion forums, an electronic newsletter, easy to use site referral scripts, electronic postcard services, a dynamic online calendar of community events with periodic notices of special functions occurring in the  submarine community,  and a robust affiliate program that pays commissions to other website managers based on referred sales.

The Submarine Store opened its doors for online testing August 1, 1999 and within 6 days was generating several hundred dollars per day in revenue and within 30 days of publication, the Submarine Store began receiving its first international orders. The Submarine Store's gross sales are now approaching $1M per year and the company has already achieved a specialty branding in the submarine community akin to that of Amazon.com in the bookseller community!
